Ed played cricket for Kent, England and Middlesex where he was captain for two seasons - a period that included Middlesex's first major trophy for 15 years.
He published his first three books during his years as a professional cricketer.
Having retired when he broke his ankle aged 30, Ed became a leader writer for The Times.
Alongside his writing and broadcasting, Ed founded the sports consultancy Thinking-Sport. In 2016, he was team consultant to Royal Challengers Bangalore, who reached the final of the IPL.
